My Grandma has a serious obsession with the Miss Universe and Miss World contests. Don't ask me why, but every year she tries to get all of the family to sit down and watch it with her (an impossible feat). As you can imagine, it doesn't go down well. Since I now live in a different country to her, I'm exempt from this biannual ritual of hers. But it doesn't mean I escape it. I still have to call her to discuss the pageants. Yes, really. After all these years Miss Universe has finally been useful! It's given me name inspiration. The list below includes the contestants for the first ever Miss Universe pageant.Shirley
Oh, so many nationalities create a fantastic, wide variety of names. The winner for 1952 was Armi Helena Kuusela, Miss Finland, pictured above.
I feel like I should recognise the best name or something of the sort. So, here goes. I'm giving a Miss Best Name award (I should really come up with a better name, but it's kinda late). It goes to Ora, with Armi getting first runner up. Since I'm clearly losing the plot and heading straight for the loony bin, join me? Who would you give the Miss Best Name to?
