Beauchamp was named after her father Sir William Beauchamp Proctor. And poor Mary Eliza! Although she married into the aristocracy when she became the wife of Robert Sherard, the 6th Earl of Harborough, she must have been wretched to know that he kept his much loved mistress on his estate, living not far from the main house. She objected not to the fact that he had a mistress (although, surely, she must have), but to the fact that the woman was kept so near. This was one marriage doomed from the start.
